Churches of New Mexico
Old Mission churches of New Mexico Artist's Statement

Since I first moved to New Mexico I have been enchanted with the old Spanish
architecture as especially reflected in the mission churches of New Mexico. Built
largely in the days of the Camino Real and during the Spanish occupation of the
New Mexico territory many fell into disrepair. Thankfully many are now being
rescued but not always in a manner faithful to history. And others are being built
imitating the old architecture.

As I travel around New Mexico I photograph those churches that catch my eye and
then try to research how they looked in the past. This is not always easy because
some churches are "restored" again and again. When I get down to putting them
on canvas I want to reflect their noble history.

All artists have to challenge themselves at least once with the painting of a triptych. The Tres Cruces Triptych is my first at was to be a
