Canyons of my mind
Canyons of my mind Artist's Statement:
My first visit to the canyons of the Colorado Plateau lies deep in childhood memory
but upon my return visit in 2004 there was an awakening of an almost primal love. My
sister and I had gone on a photographic exhibition to Utah. We began in Arches
which the visitor's guide said we could see in three hours by taking the drive around
the park. Five days later we reluctantly said goodbye with a promise to be back. We
have been back but I don't think we have seen it all yet.
Arches, Canyonlands, Bryce, Escalante, Glen Canyon and Kodachrome live within
me and in my work. Every time I sit down with a photograph to translate it into a
painting I am revisiting these magical landscapes.
